A Letter From The Founder · Cute Home
Why we made the pillow one connected shape

Nobody stops sleeping in the third trimester because they aren't trying hard enough. They stop because the position won't hold.

Six things a proper pregnancy pillow gets right that three pillows from the linen cupboard get wrong, and two things ours won't do.

Bub's Maternity Pillow
Bub's Maternity Pillow™ — one connected shape, adjustable in length.

The message we get most often goes something like this: I go to sleep on my side like I'm supposed to, I wake up flat on my back with a dead lower back, and I have no idea how many times that happened. Usually it arrives somewhere around 30 weeks, and usually the person sending it has already bought a new mattress topper.

The mattress is rarely the problem. Here are six things this pillow gets right, and two it won't do.

1

It stops the roll onto your back before it starts

Side-lying in late pregnancy is an unstable position. The bump wants to roll forward, the top hip wants to fall inward, and there is nothing at all behind you. Your body solves that instability the only way it can — by rolling flat, where the weight is finally supported. The wing of this pillow sits behind your back so that rolling flat is no longer the path of least resistance. That is the whole design idea, and everything else follows from it.

2

It is one shape, so the parts can't drift apart

Almost everyone tries the linen cupboard version first, and it makes complete sense: one under the bump, one between the knees, one wedged behind the back. It works beautifully for about twenty minutes. Then the knee pillow slides out, the back pillow ends up on the floor, and by 2am the whole arrangement is on your partner's side of the bed. Three separate objects cannot hold a position when the person on top of them moves. Supported, not stacked — that is the difference.

The wing, the bump section and the knee length are one piece.
3

It adjusts in length, which matters more than anyone tells you

Too short and your knees end up unsupported, which defeats half the point. Too long and it takes over the bed and pushes your partner to the edge of it, which is its own kind of problem at 34 weeks. Bub's adjusts, so a 5'2" first-timer and a 5'10" mum of three can both get the knee section landing where it should.

4

It doesn't expire on the due date

Most pregnancy purchases have a hard stop. This one doesn't. In the first weeks after birth you are feeding eight to twelve times a day, mostly sitting up in bed at 3am, holding the entire weight of a newborn on two forearms and a set of already-wrecked shoulders. The same pillow goes around the waist or under the arms and takes that weight instead. After a caesarean it is also the thing you brace against getting in and out of bed, which nobody mentions at the hospital.

5

The cover comes off and goes in the machine

Small thing, large difference. Something this size lives on your bed for months, so the cover unzips and goes through a normal wash. Let it dry fully before putting it back on. That is the entire maintenance requirement.

6

Three colours, because it lives in your bedroom

It is going to be on the bed for the better part of six months, so it may as well suit the room. Cream, turquoise and peach — and there is a Blissful Sleep Bundle at checkout if you would rather have the set.

Two honest notes before the price

It is a positioning aid, not medical care. Australian pregnancy guidance recommends going to sleep on your side from around 28 weeks, and this pillow makes that position easier to hold — that is the entire claim, and we are not going to make a bigger one. It is not a medical device and it does not guarantee any outcome. If you have persistent back or pelvic pain, reduced fetal movements, breathlessness lying down, or anything at all that worries you, that is a call to your midwife, GP or maternity unit rather than a shopping decision. And if you do wake up on your back, don't panic — just settle onto your side again.

It is also strictly an adult's pillow. It should never go into a cot, bassinet or any baby sleep space, and it needs to be kept clear of your baby's face and sleep surface.

The pillow, against what is already in your linen cupboard

Most people have tried the improvised version first. Here is the difference, laid out plainly.

Three pillows and a rolled towel
  • Slides apart the moment you move
  • On your partner's side of the bed by 2am
  • Nothing behind your back at all
  • Rectangles doing a job they were not shaped for
  • Useless the day the baby arrives
Bub's Maternity Pillow™
  • One connected shape that can't drift apart
  • A wing behind your back, which is the point
  • Knee support that stays where you put it
  • Adjustable to your height and your bed
  • Becomes your feeding support afterwards

Before you order

When should I start using it?

Most people start in the second trimester, when sleeping on the front stops being an option and the bump starts pulling on the lower back. Earlier is fine if you're uncomfortable.

Do I have to sleep on my left?

Australian guidance recommends going to sleep on your side from around 28 weeks, left generally preferred. The pillow is shaped for left-side sleeping but works on either side.

Will it take over the bed?

It's adjustable in length, so you can shorten it to suit your height and the bed you're sharing.

Can I use it after the baby arrives?

Yes — feeding support, sitting up in bed, and bracing after a caesarean. It's one of the few pregnancy purchases that doesn't expire on the due date.

Can my baby use it?

No. It's an adult positioning pillow and must never go into a cot, bassinet or any baby sleep space.

What colours does it come in?

Cream, turquoise and peach, plus a Blissful Sleep Bundle option at checkout.

How do I wash it?

The cover is removable and machine washable on a normal cycle. Dry fully before putting it back on.

When will it arrive?

Within 24–48 hours of ordering, with Australia Post tracking, free anywhere in Australia.

What if it doesn't suit me?

Send it back within 30 days for a full refund. Email support@cutehomeaustralia.com.

About the price

It is $70.95 at the moment, down from $105.95, or four interest-free payments of $17.74 with Afterpay. The comparison worth making is against the mattress topper, the extra pillows and the weeks of broken sleep you were about to spend it on instead.

There are 30 days to decide whether it earns its place in the bed. Two weeks is usually enough to know.
